Howells Studies Volume now published

A volume of essays on various aspects of Herbert Howells' music has just been published and is now available.

Boydell & Brewer, the highly respected Suffolk publisher who will also publish Paul's biography of Sir George Dyson next summer, has issued a volume of essays edited by Dr. David Maw and Dr. Phillip Cooke. Paul has contributed a chapter on Howells' use of the melisma. This is essentially a detailed survey of Howells' methods of word setting with a particular emphasis on his extensive and varied use of the melisma (a number of notes set to one syllable).
